spinning wikipedia

Wired tells of a new development: a search tool that will enable tracking down anonymous editing of certain corporations performed from within those corporations networks, using their TCP/IP addresses. The story also tells of some very interesting edits, done by several corporations, changing Wikipedia articles in an unsurprisingly manner. You can try  the scanner yourself, here.

[update, July 2008: Technology blog, Techdirt, counts this story as a good claim against anonymity on the web. Even though I am forced to admit that it seems as if anonymity in Wikipedia is misused, I still feel that a true flow of information requires the ability to put information without fear of  personal impact. How to balance the advantages of the veil of anonymity with its shortages ? I suspect this will be one of the key questions of the 21 century, for every netizen and citizen upon this globe.]
