Geek pride Day !

Today is Geek pride day !

Geeks all over the world enjoy that rather new commemorative day, celebrating the becoming of a proud social class. No longer an oppressed group, considered lame, unworthy, shameful. Having their own prime-time comedy show, geekdom is being recognized, and the meek are truly getting some portion of the earth.

As time goes by,  just like other pride events, this is no longer a primarily internal-community matter, as the web indicates -
Geek hobbies are no longer looked down upon (87% of americans, for example). But it isn't just a question of lifestyle. Geeks are getting a higher evaluation as partners for life. According to the cosmopolitan -
"68 percent of Americans would date a geek, mainly because nerdy guys and gals actually seem more awesome than the average beefcake as far as their personalities go. Over 75 percent of people say that geeks are hardworking, 67 percent say geeks are loyal, and 58 percent say they are confident."
We all know that inside every cool person there is a geek struggling to get out... Why don't you try it out for yourself ? Mashable offers many fun ways to celebrate Geek pride day.

And if your prejudices and fears hold you back, you can start it in a less uninhibited fashion. The 25th of May is also -
Towel Day !
On this day, Douglas Adams fans all over the galaxy carry a towel with them, wherever they go, in respect to the great author and his immortal words:
"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have... a towel has immense psychological value. any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with."
(Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

The Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May !
On this day, Terry Pratchett fans all over worlds, oval, square or flat, carry a Lilac in memory of the revolutionary events described in his great novel, Night Watch, and as a token of their support of Terry's struggle with the Alzheimer's disease. Whatever your reason maybe, you just can't say no to a revolution marked by a proclamation that we all need "Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard-Boiled Egg!"

Are you still sitting and reading ?
Get up and get about !

With a towl on your shoulder, a Lilac in your shirt, and Geek pride in your heart, the world is your oyster !
